Those pesky little zits - acne treatment for small acne spots
Little spots of acne everywhere can be very annoying, especially when they do not go away. Many over the counter acne treatments are effective at treating small bout of acne. There are four primary ingredients that are effective at treating acne.
Benzoyl peroxide. This is a primary ingredient in many over the counter and prescription acne products. It is available in differing strengths from 2.5 to 10 percent. Benzoyl peroxide can cause excessive drying, redness and even burning. Dermatologists may prescribe a lower strength if you have serious side effects.
Salicylic Acid - This ingredient can also cause some side effects like stinging and skin irritation. It can help bread down whiteheads and blackheads.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid: Two types of Alpha Hyrdoxy include blycolic and lactic acid. These two are used in many over the counter acne products. They help to remove dead skin cells and reduce inflammation. Reduction in the appearance of acne scars may also be aided with the use of alpha hydroxy acid.
Sulfer: Sulfer is often combined with salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide to help remove dead skin cells and excess oil. There are some minor side effects associated with this ingredient.
